Construction, Transport & Combined Float-off of Gravity Based Substructures (GBS’s)

The project involved the construction, transportation, and float-off of two Gravity Based Substructures (GBS’s) onboard the BOABARGE 37. This complex operation was executed with precision and expertise, showcasing our capabilities in marine engineering and offshore operations.

The construction of the two GBS’s took place onboard the BOABARGE 37, a heavy lift, semi-submersible barge with dimensions of 152m x 38m x 9.15m. The construction site was located in Oostende, Belgium, where the GBS’s were meticulously built to meet the highest standards of quality and safety.

Upon completion of the construction, the BOABARGE 37 was towed to the installation site at the Kriegers Flak Offshore Windfarm. The transportation phase was carefully planned and executed to ensure the safe and efficient delivery of the GBS’s to their final destination.

At the installation site, the foundations, together weighing approximately 16,800 tons, were floated off by submerging the barge to a depth of 20 meters. The float-off operations were conducted in two phases, ensuring the stability and safety of the structures throughout the process. The GBS’s were then installed on the seabed by the Heavy Lift Vessel (HLV) “Rambiz 3000”.

Our in-house engineering team showcased their expertise in marine engineering, handling the transportation and submerging processes with unparalleled skill. BOA had the operational responsibility for the caissons float-off operations offshore. Our experienced team ensured that all operations were conducted safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all relevant regulations and standards.

This project highlights our commitment to delivering exceptional solutions in the field of marine engineering and offshore operations. The successful construction, transportation, and float-off of the GBS’s onboard BOABARGE 37 demonstrate our ability to handle complex projects with precision and expertise.
